OpenAthens: Troubleshooting/FAQ

This guide contains information about OpenAthens, the library's authentication system for online resources.

Error Messages

When I see "Forbidden, You are not entitled to this Resource", how do I get to the item?

Answer

Receiving the error: Forbidden: You are not entitled to access this resource" after successfully signing into OpenAthens usually means something changed on the vendor end and library staff need to update some settings locally. Please report this error so library staff can restore access. On some occasions, this error may also indicate that SRC doesn't subscribe to the resource.

Other errors

When I see a "403 error" when logging in, how do I log in?

Answer

Since we use Gmail to log in to use our online resources, double check to make sure that you are not already logged in to another Gmail account. If you are, log out or use another browser where you are not logged into a Gmail account. If the problem persists, reach out to the Library Services Coordinator and they will be able to help you troubleshoot further.
